1.) I talked to my mom on the phone, and she told me she is dating a nice family friend of ours. She seems happy. She also told me that my grandmother has a boyfriend, too. And, oh my gosh, for a minute there I envied my grandmother her boyfriend. Somebody shoot me.
2.) Today I became a simultaneous translator at our 5th anniversary celebration. Well, more of a consecutive translator, I guess; they paused to give me time to talk every sentence or two. If they would have asked me in advance, I would have surely gotten all worked up and been totally tongue-tied. But right when the guy started talking, my boss nudged me and said, hey Jess, could you go up there and translate? And I was good! It was fun. The only hard part was keeping all that stuff in my head until it was my turn to talk.
3.) As I was flipping channels tonight, I ran across the following show on the children's channel: it was a mini-documentary, comparing the pill and condoms as birth control. The interviewees couldn't have been more than 14 years old, and they were saying things like "well, my first boyfriend was also my first sex partner" and "the first time we tried to use a condom, it didn't fit. What were we supposed to do? It was the first time for both of us, and we were stuck with this condom that didn't fit." An adult expert came on and advised "well, the pill is good for a couple, but if the boy is going to have a lot of one-night stands, he shouldn't rely on the girl to take the pill or RU-486. He should definitely use condoms in that case." Afterwards, there was a sperm puppet show. Yes, sperm puppets, plotting how best to break through the barrier. Now, I am all for educating kids about sex and birth control, but this was the children's channel, for Pete's sake. Is this not a case of too much information?
4.) Sometimes having a fever can be kinda fun. It made me feel really tipsy and dizzy and just kind of... tired and happy. And I just blew my nose, and it feels like someone blew up a balloon inside my head. It's kind of neat, except that is hurts and I can't walk straight.

You make me laugh. And your Grandma is awesome. Anyone who knows her won't be surprised to know she has a boyfriend. Keep writing! --AE
My grandma has a boyfriend too. They have been dating for about 15 years. He has asked her to marry him many times and she always says no. She was married once and doesn't want to do it again. She just wants a companion. She finally let him live with her a few years ago. It's weird. About German TV and it's liberated sexual talk on the children's channel: scary. And RU-486 is an abortion pill. I am pro-choice, but that's pretty nonchalant talk to associate it with actual birth control, since it's not. Wow. And I hope you feel better. :-)
