glad we cleared that up...

Perhaps I am identifying too much with "my" TV shows again.

Because, see, in addition to all of the baby talk these past couple of days, I got a chance to catch up with Dr. Sister and Brother-in-Law about grown-up things, like TV. I mentioned that I have been watching Gilmore Girls lately. This sent B-i-L off on a rant about how every time Lorelai opens her mouth, he cringes and wants to turn off the show, but he doesn't because he's already somewhat invested in the characters. You might recall that I rather identify with Lorelai.

This unabashed Lorelai bashing on the part of my kin caused me a not insignificant amount of angst as the conversation meandered off onto other tangents. I'm on shaky enough ground as it is in that family, and I don't want to lose any more points by being too much like a character they detest.

Imagine my relief when the subject came up again later and I mentioned that I was interested to see what happened when Rory went off to college. "Oh, you haven't gotten there yet?" "Nope, still in season 3." "Oh, well, we still really liked Lorelai in season 3."

Whew.

I've only seen three episodes of the Gilmore Girls ever. Perhaps I should start from the beginning and I would appreciate it more. Rory has always struck me as whiny and immature, and as someone who thinks she's smarter than she is. The occasional scenes of high-speed abbreviated banter between Rory and Lorelai always strike me as badly acted (or badly written), although I think they're supposed to be funny. But Lorelai--I think she's the reason I tuned in for a second and a third episode (the third of which was just a few weeks ago). There's something really endearing about her character, although I never thought to identify her with you. Hmmmm. Perhaps I'll start watching more often (although I may have to use my mute button when Rory opens her mouth).
