Hmm... I got nothing tonight. Seriously. Brain? Empty. Sometimes this whole post-a-day thing seems very lame.
So here are a few more things about me:
- I like ice cubes. Especially the square ones that get the little divots in them when they start to melt. Mmm. Cold. Frozen.
- I like to sleep in a coldish room under lots of warm blankets.
- I take my soup very hot. Practically boiling. If it doesn't burn the roof of my mouth, it's not hot enough.
- I just decided my new favorite breakfast is a belgian waffle that I make by myself in one of those big swivelly waffle irons.
- This hotel has one of those. So did my college cafeteria.
- We have a thousand kitchen gadgets at home, but not that one (I don't think).
- I have started a collection of little hotel toiletries. For some reason this excites me. I think it would be fun to have a ginormous tub of them. To do what? I don't know. Just to have.
- I started buying my niece's Christmas present today. Books, of course. Lots and lots of them, from Half-Price Books (this has been officially condoned by the parents; so it's not gauche). In fact, I am not sure when I bought her anything that wasn't books. :-)
Ooh... thought of another one.
- Many moons ago, I had a boyfriend who transferred from his grad school in Chicago to Princeton. Once when I went to visit him, he surprised me with David Letterman tickets. We saw a live taping of the show. It rocked.

My dad used to collect little hotel toiletries, and they filled up a whole drawer in our bathroom . . . then spilled over into two drawers. It was like a strange addiction; he couldn't stop. Several years ago, I was cleaning out that bathroom one day when visiting, frustrated by the fact that what had become the guest bathroom was overflowing with tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner (not to mention lotion). I was going to throw away all the little bottles. "No, don't waste them!" my older sister screeched. "Are you going to use them?" I asked sarcastically. "I'll take them home and Paul can use them" she said with desperation in her voice. So--her husband Paul has been using tiny bottles of shampoo and conditioner for the last several years. Sometimes his hair is sleek and shiny; sometimes it's dull and lacks definition. Sometimes it's stripped of protein buildup; other times it's full and robust.
My suggestion to you: stop collecting them now, before it becomes an addiction! Otherwise your future husband could have inconsistent hair for years and years! (Or give them to a shelter for battered or homeless women--they acutally put them to good use.)
Or...refill your bigger bottles of shampoo by emptying out all the little hotel ones into it. I think it's okay to have a mix of different shampoos. (You can do the same with other like things)
Or...make little kits in a basket for guests at your house.
Some of my favorite book selections for you (though perhaps a bit 'old' even for your genius niece):
Old Turtle by Douglas Wood (and its sequel)
The Quiltmaker's Gift J by Jeff Brumbeau and Gail De Marcken
The Clown of God by Tomie DePaola
You are Special by Max Lucado
God in Between by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso
In God's Name by Sandy Eisenbert Sasso
I collect hotel toiletries too. I keep them in a basket, and when it gets full, I donate them to a homeless shelter.
Jess Dear,
Can you call me sometime? I have a question that I can't find the answer to and you are the bearer of all knowledge. . . 2163161473

Awesome ideas, girls.
Penelope, I think i will keep collecting them and then donate the lot when they threaten to take over the closet in some freaky miniature coup de tat.
I think it's hilarious that your sister's husband must use tiny shampoo bottle.
Excellent books, Jodi. She will grow into them eventually. :-)
