New job

It's been more like a long homecoming, really. I had no idea there would be so many friendly, familiar faces on campus. I had no idea that after all of these years and two lifetimes' worth of experiences, I would come back here and still belong.

My role has changed - instead of an apartment on campus, I now have an office and a sweet laptop and the coolest phone you can imagine, and the charge to connect people's dreams to our visions, hook their carts to our horses, in a way that ascertains the future of our humble little establishment.

I had no idea it would be this much fun.
I had no idea how much I still loved this place.

There are the former professors, who treated me so collegially then that it's easy to slip into the role now. There's my old boss from my on-campus job, with whom I toiled over typewriter and file cabinet and with whom I now rejoice at the new computer database that is pulling us out of the stone age. There are a few straggling fellow students of mine, still laboring patiently away, part-time, at the coveted degree. And there are my co-workers, a team of strong and reliable folk who have accepted and encouraged and immersed me in the new responsibilities.

This is gonna be fun.
