So it's back in the saddle again after nearly three weeks of running around like a chicken with my head cut off (did you know there actually was a chicken that ran around for a long time with his head cut off? His name was Mike, and after his owner brutally attempted to decapitate him, but missed that crucial chunk of brain stem, said owner resorted to feeding Mike with a dropper down the now-gaping gullet. The near-miracle apparently boosted the value of Mike's life).
And do you know what? I was happy to get home. This tiny miracle filled me with awe and wonder as I crossed the threshold of my little apartment and had the astonishing thought "it's nice to be home." I had missed my bed, my closet (embarrassingly, whilst agonizing over the minutest of details about the trip on behalf of everyone else, I had forgotten to pack enough underwear), and probably most of all, my Ethernet (or whatever this is) connection. Yes, I read your blogs and emails at an Internet cafe, but then I had to hurry, and that's no fun.
Daily life was fun today: I got to leave work in the early afternoon (yay, comp time!), IM a bit, and then Heather came over and we made (and enjoyed) delicious risotto. We had to be a bit creative with the ingredients, and it turned out incredibly yummy. Then we indulged in our one television addiction, "Berlin Berlin", and went to the Stammtisch, which is a fancy word for I Have Friends! And We Get Together and Drink Beer at Local Dining Establishments! Sometimes too Much!
And daily life will change dramatically (and for the better) starting on Saturday: that's when Elizabeth arrives for an extended visit. Hooray! We have already decided she will be more roommate than guest, which fills me with joy to no end. I am glad to be home. And that makes me... well, glad.

I'm taking your definition of Stammtisch, because it's perfect and no one I know knows what a Stammtisch is. Also, if there is another Stammtisch tonight, are you in?
