My favorite Pee-Wee moments

Paul Reubens has had some memorable bit parts in some rather less-than-memorable films. A couple of my favorites:

  • As the voice of robotic Max in Flight of the Navigator, a lovable, fluffy little kiddie sci-fi flick. "Were those geeks, David?"
  • As Amilyn, a melodramatic vampire in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie that started the madness, where Kristy Swanson was the one kicking serious vampire butt). The best wooden-stake-to-the-heart death throes ever. "Ohhhh... aaahhh...oooh, owwww."
  • And I swear this was him, even though the stupid IMDb refuses to confirm my suspicions: as Some Random Hotel Worker in Troop Beverly Hills, playing cards with rich prissy Wilderness Girls. "I'll see your two marshmallows and raise you a wiener!"

There you have it, folks: Pee-Wee at his itty bitty bit-part best, before the unfortunate trenchcoat incident.

I'll bet the title of this post gets you a brief surge of traffic.

Oh yes, he's Max all right. I don't think I realized this either until recently. (All hail IMDb, even if they do miss stuff from time to time).

But listen to Max's stupid laugh and there can be no doubting. Pee-Wee as a spaceship is kinda surreal, actually.

i am a big fan of his work in the Buffy movie. i am also a big fan of the Buffy movie, which has tainted my ability to appreciate the series.
one other movie he had a bit part in, that you might not have realized, was Pee Wee's Big Adventure. just a brief cameo, though. if you blinked you may have missed it.
