So I was flipping through my blogroll at lunch, and landed on my blog, and checked the Site Meter, because I am completely enamored by it and all of the marvelous tidbits of information it gives me (btw, I know who you all are!! Well, almost all of you...). But anyway, I saw that only one person had checked my blog in the last hour... namely, ME. Which freaked me out. Because it wasn't me-at-work-checking-my-blog, it was me-at-home. But I was at work! See the dilemma? My roommate is out of town for the week, and I have the key anyway, so she couldn't have come home unexpectedly and logged on.
So... did the computer turn itself on? Possibly, I guess... weirder things have been known to happen, and my blog is the starter page (maybe that makes me an arrogant bastard; I don't know). Howsomever, I do not believe that my computer is smart enough to turn itself on and then browse around on my blog. Because PC-05 definitely stayed for 32 seconds and looked at three pages!
Was I jumping to the wrong conclusion? Had I gotten my IP address AND my domain name AND my operating system AND my time zone mixed up? Don't think so. (The only strange detail was that PC-05 had checked my blog using Netscape Navigator, which I am not aware of even having on my computer. And, after a quick check... I can't find it.)
Could some other computer have my domain name and IP address? I don't know much about these things, but wouldn't that be a bit contradictory somehow?
This is surreal. Normally I have this address ignored by Site Meter, so it doesn't rack up all sorts of visits that don't really count since they're me. But it can only ignore two addresses at a time, and my IP address at work always changes (don't ask me why) and I just blocked out a second one today, which kicked out my home address from the blocked list. Confused yet?
So that leaves one (reasonable) option: the Hausmeister came in, turned on my computer, and browsed around on my blog. Um... ew. He's a nice enough man but... hello? So I had to come home immediately and see what is going on. I turned on the computer and went to Site Meter (where I confirmed that it was indeed my computer that had logged in half an hour before), and discovered in unlocking the door that someone HAD been in here (they always lock it differently than I do, but consistently-differently, so I know when they have been in here, normally to clean or whatever). OK, fine, so maybe the Hausmeister had to check to make sure the computer was working... but three page views? That's not really necessary. And what is up with Netscape, which I don't (think I) even have?
I am sure there is a reasonable explanation that I am missing. Care to clue me in?
Oops, gotta run...

Some otehr browsers turn up as "Netscape", AFAIK, e.g. some early Firefox predecessors (which is the word of the day).
Can you set some kind of master password on your computer so you have to log in everytime you use it? To keep your lurking landlord at bay?
