cleanse

I've had this stupid respiratory virus for going on ten weeks now. Ten weeks! Several major holidays' worth of time. I just can't get my body healthy.

So, I was hanging out with my high school friends when I was home last week (which was way fun!) and they talked about doing this "cleanse" thing where you basically just drink this special lemonade made with lemons and maple syrup and cayenne pepper for several days. It's supposed to clean the toxins from your system. And man, my system is toxic right now. That much is clear.

I'm not sure how long I'm going to last, though. The guacamole in the fridge looked really yummy. Organic green mushy goodness.

Oh well. I probably wouldn't have been able to taste it anyway. Stoopid nose.

I'm not going to say your friends are wrong, but I've heard the many "clearing toxins out of your body" regimens are based on something that sounds plausible, but is not based in any hard physiology.

My suspicion is that it works because people want it to work - which could be a good thing in and of itself - but it's not really cleansing you internally.

Although, that being said, I believe there have been some proven health benefits from types of fasting, which you are doing in some way with this. I just don't think the benefits can be said to accrue from lessening toxicity.

Hope you feel better though; regardless of the medicine you chose.
