The Facts of Life

What a day! It ended with a marvelous dinner and uninhibited dancing to Indian techno music, and the rest of the day was comparable, but with less hip gyration. Suffice it to say, I am living into my role of accompanying tour guide.

Actually it was not all high points today--we had our daily share of small crises as well and I found myself near tears at a couple of points. What made today good was that it was balanced. Every time my proverbial cup was empty, something happened to fill it to overflowing again. A great sermon by a humble, faithful, down-to-earth woman who also happens to be a bishop; an encouraging phone call from the tour operator telling me I am not going crazy and he felt this way too on his first programs; a couple random conversations that made me realize that I have really amazing friends here; the realization (again) that I have an amazing and supportive blogging community. Not to mention an evening of yummy Indian food and letting some of the stress flow out my hips and feet and shoulders. (Apparently, my slightly-awkward dancing style was just misdiagnosed Indian, because I "learn fast" and "have moves," according to these experts. Who knew?)

So. More balance today. Hooray! I can handle balance. "You take the good, you take the bad..." (Resisting the urge to end with a smiley face)

P.S. Probably no posts for a while, at least until Sunday, 'cause we are going on the road.

Next time you find yourself in Chicago we're going dancing. 'Cause I can't dance for ANYTHING but when I went to Diwali last year (with ill-fated boyfriend) we stole the show with the stick-dancing and hooking-feet-and-spinning thing.

Oh year, I remember my first time at an Indian party. YES, there was a dance floor. YES, I did jump around on one foot. YES, I do not regret it! It was fun. And I am also one of those who shouldn't dance too much (see Hitch for help on that, although it's not a good film).
