Volltreffer

The German word is "Volltreffer." The closest I can come in English is something wanny and nonexpressive like "that's it!!" It describes pretty well the feeling I had today as I randomly ran across the coolest graduate program ever (well, not so random, I guess, since I had googled "masters peace studies"), which has crystallized itself as my next moderately long-range goal: I am going to get in to this school. It combines everything I am looking for in a moderately long-range goal: meaty content (peace studies, ethics, globalization and international politics), the price is right (if you're accepted, you get a full scholarship and then some), and it made actual fireworks dance out of the top of my skull. What an amazing place. What amazing people. What an amazing program. Too bad they only accept 15 people a year, of which only 3 of them are usually from the US. But I like a challenge.

In a sick and bizarre twist, I saw the movie "Supersize Me" tonight. Besides making me sickeningly aware yet again of the enormous genetic tendency toward obesity on my dad's side of the family (I will get up an hour earlier tomorrow morning and go rollerblading!), it also made me want to beat Ronald McDonald into a bloody pulp (not that I actually blame McDonald's for making people fat--there are dozens of factors involved--but holy cow, does Ronnie look freaky in that movie. Far too much like Michael Jackson in a red wig for my taste). Anyway, after two hours of sobering and revolting McEw, I realize that this dream school that I found today is funded by the philanthropy of none other than Joan B. Kroc. McDonalds--ich liebe es.
