soon it will be christmas day

Rain pounds the pavement, and the breeze whistles through our windows (despite the plastic coating)... not exactly the best set-up for a Christmas post, eh?

Even though neither the weather nor our window sealants are cooperating, Christmas is upon us, and for the first time in five years I'm off to celebrate with my family. Last time I was home for Christmas, my parents were still married - and fighting incessantly. Now they are divorced, Mom is remarried and Dad is bringing his girlfriend(!) to Christmas Eve to meet the whole clan. My parents are getting along famously now. Divorce really agrees with them.

Last time I was home for Christmas, my sister had just gotten married. Now I have a two-year-old niece and they've got another bun in the oven.

So this Christmas will be not so much heavy on the tradition for me, but rather all about celebrating change, figuring out new ways to do things. This fits in rather well with the theme I've got going this fall, but for maybe the first time, part of me is longing pretty intensely for some sameness. I want some things I can absolutely count on.

Maybe my "new" family can be one of those things.

Merry Christmas, Jess! I can only assume that you are receiving none of my e-mails these past few months. :(

I'd love to be one of those things you can absolutely count on. I'm still here, still reading, would love to come visit you. I just need some contact info.

Love, Amy
