Chaos and entropy

The second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy (disorder) of the universe increases during any spontaneous process. From this we can draw several conclusions:

A.) I will never, ever be able to keep my CDs or books organized for any substantial length of time.
B.) When you pack a suitcase to go somewhere, you can fit all your stuff in. When you pack to come home, there is no chance of repeating this feat, even if you only bought miniscule souvenirs, left all your books at the hostel, and are wearing three layers of clothing for the return flight.
C.) If you mess with a good thing, you are risking complications many-many. Antithetical corollary to Conclusion C: Easy is boring, and often it's important to stick your neck out.
D.) Where did all this crap in my office come from?

It's (finally) moving day! I'm giving up my office, my computer, my desk, and the view out to the Elbe tributary in favor of a computer that has Windows 2000 (this is a major improvement), a bigger desk, more files and a view of the castle courtyard (for my distraction pleasure). It wasn't my choice (heck, none of this was my choice, if you'll recall), but I'll make do. It will make the transition more concrete in my head, anyway, to be in the "power office." Maybe it will make the decision-making easier. We'll see.

And speaking of decision-making... it's election day here. Let's see what happens. Perhaps chaos will reign.

Entropy - not just a good idea. It's the law.

i know something of the feeling... just about two years ago I gave up a perfectly good office with a window looking out over western mountains for one that has a window looking out at brick structures and a gray sky and a postcard size courtyard. So much for upward mobility.

Thanks for the insight. I'll now blame the desk's chaos on the laws of physics.

Er, congratulations? Are you officially on your own now?

Also, keep me updated on the election drama. I also expect full reports on the reactions of people I know. Did I tell you the Dark Lord emailed me last week, btw?

Hi all!

Charlie, thanks for making me laugh. :-)

Sage, I agree: progress is relative. Also, I'm glad I could help you assuage the desk-guilt.

Joannie: yes. Local folks, but also Chancellor, which is a fairly big deal. As it now stands, both major candidates got 34-35 percent of the votes and are claiming a mandate, but each refuses to concede to the other.

Heather: no... the transition is made very weird due to travel schedules. So while no one is technically present except for me, and I am bearing most of the responsibility now, the "officialdom" of the new position begins in some things on October 1st, and in other things on October 15th. It's confusing and stressful and I just want to be able to start the new stuff and stop rehashing the old stuff, you know?
