Just thought I would catalogue all of the sounds that are assaulting my ears at this very moment:
- A poor housefly has got itself caught in the web of a very tiny, yet diligent spider, who is currently attempting gamely to inject the very large fly with its poison. The fly, for its part, is attempting to flee, resulting in a high-pitched bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. My money is on the spider, since the fly's hands are tied.
- Outside, the Castle courtyard prepares itself for yet another weekend festival thingie, this one more moderate in scope. Tonight's band is warming up. They appear to be some sort of screech-metal-thump fusion.
- My CD player is playing the lovely, soothing notes of Chris Rice. Mmm, Chris Rice. This one is not an ear-assault. Me likey.
- Just outside my office door, someone is playing a saw. I swear it. You know how they draw a violin bow across jagged metal teeth and produce some otherworldy ghost-breath moanings? That's this. Me not so likey.
Who am I kidding? I am just putting off the inevitable with this talk of sounds and whatnot. It's Steffi's last day, and she deserves a tribute, with pictures. Stay tuned...

One thing about Iowa, I don't get to look out my window and see very many castle courtyards. Lots of corn, few castles. It's a trade off, I realize.
Yeah... but you have White Castle, at least! I am switching offices next week, taking on the yoke and whatnot, and my new office has the view out to the Castle courtyard. (My current office overlooks the Elbe river.) I still would rather see corn, though. :-)
There are no White Castles in Iowa. Believe me, I've looked. :-)
Eeew! Poor fly. I hate it when I actually notice things like that. Not that I want to be completely ignorant to the pain and agony of others (including insects), ...but, well, you know.
Amy
OK then... *crosses Iowa off "places to live when I go home" list* :-)
Amy, I totally know what you mean. Today a fly got itself caught in the flourescent light and I basically was forced to listen to it fry to death. Sad. (Also to note: my office? Verrrry quiet place. You can hear a fly fry.)
Bad saw players suck! A good saw player is hard to find. but I found one...outside my office! Well, actually, in the subway station outside my office...
