I just want the floods to stop

More than half of Iowa -- 55 counties-- is now considered a disaster zone. Cedar Rapids is Yahoo's top news story right now. Half of the University is being evacuated. It won't stop raining. Everything is falling apart.

The human mind is the freakiest thing. My town ("mine" in a temporary sense, but still mine) is melting, and yet half the time I'm sitting here watching Buffy and learning to type correctly and thinking I'll go get some ice from the machine. The rain is so loud on the roof of my hotel that I can barely hear myself think, and I know what it means, but my mind refuses to dwell only on that. It insists on having preferences and peeves and survival instincts and whatnot. Weird.

Rain, rain go away.
