today while the blossoms still cling to the vines

Ever have one of those days?

One of those days where in the grand scheme of things nothing truly remarkable happens, but when you look back on it, you wouldn't change a thing?

That was today -- perfect in its normalcy. Well, maybe not perfectly normal; it did after all include a national holiday, an out-of-town guest, two parties, some weapons practice, a new hobby, poetry and martinis. But still, the day had this lovely, easy synergy that made everything fall exactly into place. I spent the morning adorned in my pajamas, eating leftover party food and hanging out in my living room with my guest and my housemates. We talked for hours, and no one wanted to leave.

And then I left to take Dan to the Megabus stop, which I've been to a dozen times, and got very lost downtown. Still, though, we made it to the stop with a full 2 minutes to spare and I did not even freak out, except to call myself a putz a couple of times. The bus, as it turned out, was running very late anyway.

And then it was on to Hyde Park for a barbecue party and Aikido weapons practice, which was flat-out cool. And without really meaning to, I signed myself up to join the Aikido club and got a new hobby. Usually I completely suck at anything sporty that requires coordination, but the teachers are great and the pace is just what I can handle and it's completely different than anything I've done before...but yet it feels natural.

And then I picked up Bonnie and headed home for our inaugural poetry and martinis event, which featured good food, fun drinks, wonderful women and some amazing thoughts floating around out there on our porch.

I'm going to bed with the absolute confidence that life is good and that everything is going to work out exactly like it needs to. Whatever that means.

I wonder what tomorrow will bring!

i know a lady in Chicago who teaches Aikido - she lives up in rogers park but I think teaches on the south side as well. So if you run into Laurie Erickson, tell her I say hi. :)

Will do! I'm not exactly well-connected in the Aikido community, having had all of two lessons, but hey, you never know.

I sing that song every single time I put either of my kids to bed. It is their lullaby. :)
