Full Circle

There's a sense of completion following me around lately. It's satisfying, if a little odd. Lately, in several different life arenas, things seem to be coming full circle for me. For example, at church tonight the preacher was my friend who'd started this little congregation from seed a year ago, and his presence made us reflect on how far we--and he--have come in the past year. Moving to Chicago, which is no longer a blip on the radar screen but now more like a constant feature on the mental landscape, feels in a way like coming home. Even my hair is playing this game-- with these new tax-rebate highlights, I'm back to almost exactly my original haircolor (not that it's varied all that much, but still, I notice).

I think the biggest piece of it happened tonight-- dinner with some old friends. "Old" as in "used to be, and then kind of weren't, and now sort of are again." It was a little tentative maybe, but welcome on all sides, I think. There was sincerity in the air, and some nostalgia, and a dash of silliness, and a lot of forgiveness. It was nice. It's a circle I'd be glad to close up again.
