Lovely things happened today! That in itself is an item of note. Lovely things have been slim pickin's the past couple of weeks.
On second thought, that's not true. There have been plenty of lovely things, but they have been outweighed by unlovely things. But now we've turned a corner. At least that's my hope in the wake of today.
Here's what turned the day around for me: I got my seminary housing assignment! (In some ways it's hard for me to reconcile the whole "being a grownup" life-stage with the fact that I am once again living in student housing, but on the other hand, it was my choice for a lot of good reasons. And many of the folks in student housing are, in point of fact, grownups.) It's a really good assignment -- and it also happens to be the exact apartment I was assigned to ten years ago this summer, when I was coming to seminary for the first time.
And in another surge of serendipity, I got to see Joy and Lydia tonight (my roommates from that very apartment, lo those many years ago)! It had been seven years since I saw Lydia last, and quite a while since I'd seen Joy too, but the years melted away and our friendship proved totally intact. I love it when that happens. We reminisced and laughed and caught up and laughed some more. It was kind of amazing, and it was solid and real. It was good to be reminded that I do in fact have wonderful things in my life.
Maybe this will give me some perspective.

I can't believe you will be in the same apartment! Guess that's where you are supposed to be.
When are you heading my way again?
